Group training sessions
Beacon South Yorkshire have developed two group training sessions aimed at helping carers work through the different challenges they will face.

Stepping Stones
Stepping Stones is a one day course in a group setting. This course will allow the carer to explore and identify areas of their own lives that can be improved. Through this programme we will be exploring;
- Understanding influences and relationships
- Communication styles
- Taking time out
- Help available
- Goal setting
On completion of the one day course there is an opportunity to work with a trained support worker on a one-to-one basis.

Next Steps
This programme is to help prepare carers who wish to move on into volunteering, further education or return to paid work. We look at supporting former carers to integrate back into their community and touch on issues such as;
- Boundaries and safeguarding
- Assertiveness and communication
- Preparation for working life
- CV writing and completing application forms
- Interview skills
This course would require a commitment of a morning or afternoon per week, over 4 weeks. Dates and times to be confirmed.

One to one support sessions
All support sessions are confidential, one to one sessions are with one of our trained support workers. We provide a quiet, comfortable room where the support worker will give you the chance to discuss issues of concern and help you deal with some of the challenges you face. These can be accessed Monday to Friday by appointment only. Providing you with a more defined support structure over a period of weeks or months.
Beacon South Yorkshire provide you with support in your time of need. We understand carers daily challenges change over time and we understand that support comes in all shapes and sizes.

Coffee mornings
Coffee mornings are a chance for carers to meet with like-minded people, who are going through similar issues, to share experiences and talk to one another. Why not pop in and enjoy a cup of tea or coffee with light refreshments, in a relaxed and comfortable environment. As well as a chance to talk, you will get to find out what’s happening within BeaconSY and any other agencies you can access for support. Our Coffee mornings run 11:00 am till 1:00 pm.
Due to COVID-19, we have put a booking system in place for our coffee mornings as we are only allowed a certain number of attendees.
If you would like to book onto one of our coffee mornings please ring the office on 01226 814012.

Holistic and beauty therapy

Reiki
Reiki is a hands-on natural healing treatment, allowing energy to flow through the therapist to the carer to activate the natural healing processes of the carer’s body and restore physical and emotional well-being.

Hot stone massage
The hot stone massage is a speciality massage where the therapist uses smooth, heated stones as an extension of their own hands, or by placing them on the body. The heat can be both deeply relaxing and help warm up tight or aching muscles, allowing the therapist to work more deeply and have a quicker impact.

Beauty treatments
Our beauty treatments are currently facials and are offered as part of our holistic approach to carer welfare.

Counselling
Counselling is a talking therapy that involves a trained therapist listening to you and helping you find ways to deal with emotional issues. Here at Beacon South Yorkshire, you will work 1 to 1 with a fully qualified counsellor who will work alongside you while you find these solutions using techniques from various different counselling theories to help you reach your personal goals.
All counselling sessions are confidential. We provide a quiet, comfortable room where your counsellor will give you the chance to discuss issues of concern and help you deal with some of the challenges you face. These can be accessed anytime.

Mindfulness
Mindfulness shows us the importance of being fully present and engaged with the here and now, free from distraction and judgement and being aware of our own thoughts and feelings without getting tangled up in them.
Using meditation techniques, it enables us to build skills that we can use in everyday life. Engaging in positive mindfulness techniques have been found to be extremely useful when carers are faced with daily challenging situations. These techniques help with reactive thoughts and feelings.
We are currently offering mindfulness group sessions, due to COVID-19 we have put a booking system in place for our group sessions as we are only a certain number of attendees.
Our Mindfulness sessions run Thursdays 12 pm – 1 pm on a fortnightly basis.
If you would like to book onto one of our Mindfulness Sessions please ring the office on 01226 814012.

Yoga
Yoga is an ancient form of exercise that focuses on strength, flexibility and breathing to boost physical and mental wellbeing. The main components of yoga are postures (a series of movements designed to increase strength and flexibility) and breathing. There’s some evidence that regular yoga practice is beneficial for people with high blood pressure, heart disease, aches and pains – including lower back pain – depression and stress.
Beacon South Yorkshire is proud to partner with Willow Tree Mindful Yoga to run the sessions. Our Yoga sessions will be held at our Barnsley Branch. We ask for a small donation of £3 per session. Contact Beacon SY for more information.
We are currently offering group Yoga sessions, due to COVID-19 we have put a booking system in place for our group sessions as we are only a certain number of attendees.
